The Draminski Pregnancy Detector uses ultrasound to detect amniotic fluid in the uterus. With a ‘blind’ device, there is always the potential for false positives and false negatives, so be sure to be familiar with canine anatomy before purchasing this device.
- False positive: When pointed towards a full bladder (the detector cannot distinguish between urine and amniotic fluid)
- False negative: Late pregnancy, when there is less amniotic fluid.
Frequency can be adjusted by selecting small (S), medium (M), large (L) or giant (G) breed settings.
There must be sufficient amniotic fluid in the uterus for this device to be able to confirm pregnancy. Therefore, very early (<30 days) and very late pregnancy may give a false negative.
